Overview

Chalupkova is a new compact mixed-use urban block in Bratislava’s growing downtown. Its strategic positioning, In Sync with the City, is a result of our long-term partnership. We have been creating the brand narrative for this new neighbourhood from the early concept stages through the construction.

The Challenge

The masterplan for Chalupkova was designed by the legendary Stefano Boeri Architetti, known for their Vertical Forests. Alongside, we were asked to create the strategy, identity, website, wayfinding, launch events and campaigns to highlight how the neighbourhood will be experienced by its residents and visitors.

Strategy

Chalupkova is a new neighbourhood made for people who have a strong personal relationship with Bratislava. For those, who prefer a new park to a record number of floors. They expect a sophisticated space built with human scale in mind, generous public space, active ground floors, and strong connections to nearby streets. And that is what they get. We decided to highlight how seamlessly this new neighbourhood weaves into the existing fabric of the city. We wanted Chalupkova to stand out by becoming a lively new part of Bratislava that fits its scale and way of life. Instead of interrupting, it adds to the city’s natural flow.

During the process, we explored nearly 50 alternative naming options, but the original name based on the name of its main street proved the strongest. It is clearly rooted in place and stands out in a district full of developments with generic, English-sounding names.

Each city has its own rhythm, character, and logic. Good urban projects listen before they speak. Chalupkova was designed with deep respect for Bratislava.
